On loss of compactness in Sobolev embeddings on hyperbolic spaces and in Moser-Trudinger embeddings

Summary. Moser-Trudinger embeddings have a natural interpretation as a problem in a hyperbolic plane. For it and for the higher dimensional case we identify scaling transformations responsible for loss of compactness in the embedding, and prove optimal inequalities of Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg type.
